Flounder - The Little Mermaid
The Little mermaid stands out as one of the greatest Disney movies, a truly unique film with some of the best known songs. It is the one and only Flounder, Ariels best buddy, who stands out as an original and loveable character. Incidentally this Flounder is not actually a flander but still an interesting underwater creature. It is hard to believe that this little animated tropical fish could evoke such heart warming feelings. His character is relatable and comedic. He is neurotic, easily scared and has child like tendencies, it is clear to see that we all identify with the loveable Flounder.

Dory – Finding Nemo
Another faithful companion is no other than Dory the forgetful pacific blue surgeon fish, voiced over by Ellen DeGeneres. This fish has a distinct personality made unique by her short term memory and her overwhelming enthusiasm. We were not disappointed by the strange and wonderful Dory. Dory accompanies Merlin across the ocean in search of Nemo (Merlin’s Son) who has been captured by fishermen and placed in a dentist’s office with a motley crue of underwater characters. During their endeavours Dory is a permanent figure of unwavering optimism, even when Merlin loses faith. She is famous for her scatty and somewhat mad behaviour that captivated and entertains the audience fully.

Lola - Shark Tale
It is the sultry love interest in a shark’s tale that really got audiences going. Lola voiced over by Angelina Jolie really captured our attention. Never before have an audience experienced a gold-digging and equally seductive lionfish. Oscar the bluestreak cleaner wrasse is besotted with the beautiful Lola however she has more sinister intentions as Lola tries her best efforts to steal the money that has come into Oscars possession. Unfortunately things end badly for Lola (as expected) as Oscar sees through her ulterior motives, that she is only interested in fame and fortune, and leaves her for a more wholesome life with Angie. The film ends happily for some, whilst Lola remains alone.

Sebastian – The Little Mermaid
This is the second entry from one of our favourite fishy tales The Little Mermaid. It is Sebastian the Trinidadian talking crab who really steals the show. He is the Kings right hand man and the royal court composer, which is a surreal job title for a small red crab. Sebastian utilised all his power to look after Ariel as the King instructed, he keeps a tight watch on the little mermaid and is horrified to find that she has fallen in love with a human. During the course of this film Sebastian’s harsh tone softens, as does his heart. He eventually lets the mermaid be and is happy to let her go. Sebastian developed throughout the film and he becomes a much loved character. It is impossible not to warm to Sebastian. The combination of his unusual accent and his mad personality makes for an unforgettable character.

Bruce – Finding Nemo
Bruce (voiced by Barry Humphries) is a wonderful underwater character, they beauty of Bruce is that he is lovely and funny, not your typical shark. However it did not start that way initially Bruce is the archetypal Shark character, mean, ruthless and terrifying. Bruce certainly appears to be a sinister animal with dagger like teeth and an impossible speed, it seems likely that no fish will be any match for Bruce. Bruce salivated at the thought of catching a Marlin, and makes no qualms about who he catch as his next prey. Bruce makes a complete transformation during the course of the film thanks to Marlin, Bruce eventually sees the errors of his ways and turns to vegetarianism. All ends happily and Bruce stays with us as the loveable and by no means threatening shark.
